The Harley for Russell's reasons, and the Yamaha b/c...have you seen that thing lately? It seems to be as bad as the Harley and it has the HP!
-- Ronnie Reyes
Sure Gobert could win. If he showed up with his head screwed on straight he can win on almost anything. He is very good at learning new tracks and new bikes. I would be surprised if V&H didn't kick the 'little cock from Little Rock' out and give Gobert his bike. I know they've been burned by Tokin' Tony in the past but I'd bet they would do anything to be done with Little John. Honda could also draft him to help beat Mladin and company. And Kawasaki could use another team mate for EBoz in the 600SS class. Just don't know if he will get the opportunity. Not sure if any team will be willing to take the risk.
-- Robert Harris
Not with Duhamel in the field. Gobert blew his chance. Yea he's fast, but he's also a pothead. How many chances is this guy going to get? I know he's won his share of races, but I wouldn't let him ride my bicycle. He may get the chance to ride, but I will guarantee you he won't win. I bet he couldn't even pass a drug test. Of course that may not be that big of a deal, Haga gets away with it.
Good Luck Miguel, -- Tom Pavoliti
It has been a love-hate relationship as I follow Gobert through the world of motorcycle racing. He has amazing talent but his poor attitude and his antics leave his other track record less than desirable. However, if Gobert was given a "third" chance, I would cheer him on and bet on a podium finish.
-- Doug Nixon
Yes, Anthony Goblunt could probably climb on any bike in the paddock, including the Harley and end up on the podium. In spite of his problems, Gobeer is truly one of the most exciting racers in any series. -- Bill Stevenson
Someone needs to put him on a Superbike and get him in the show. I am sure allot of lesser teams would love to have him. V&H ought to treat John Kosienski the cry baby like he treats them. Pay him to stay at home and let Anthony ride.
-- Craig Brooks
Gobert certainly has the talent to win on any motorcycle in the paddock (with the exception of the VR1000). The question is can he keep himself motivated and away from the bong. I believe that at this point in his career he is willing and able to do just that and show everyone what he is truly capable of. Let's hope someone gives him that opportunity. Competition Accessories maybe?
-- Will Fong
A little bit of practice is all Gobert needs to run with the best of them!!
-- Ahmed. Jehanzeb
Tony could jump on any Ducati in the paddock and place in the top 5. No doubt about it. I think Harley should drop Russell from the team (as he has already mentally left), and let Gobert finish off the season. He has the fresh experience of working out a prototype bike's problems and winning races on said prototype bike(okay, well a race.)
--Steve Stanley, San Diego, CA
Any manufacturer that would be foolish enough to "bet the farm" on Gobert is just throwing away money!! Gobert has "blown off" more chances to become a serious racer on the US & World Superbike arenas than anyone has a right too.
-- Bj Ondo
what about Competition Acessories they should give him a shot on Pegrams ride this weekend. And Gobert could get on Hayden's Yamaha this weekend and make it look like Haga's
-- Mark Ferry
I would love to see the Wild Child on the VR1000, if anybody could do it....! While I'm a huge fan of both Pascal and Scott, and believe both would be winning races on a 996, RC51 or GSXR I think Mr. Gobert may have a little "extra" incentive to make a bold(er) statement in 2000. Winning on the first year Bimota/Suzuki & the many year Harley-Davidson effort would certainly add more shine to the resume.
-- Jim Weatherhead
I think Anthony has the most raw talent of anybody in the world! I think he has learned from the mistakes that he has made, and if he wanted to he could kick ass over anybody. If he fades away, then I think people will realize what a awsome rider he was. -- Alan BRANDON
Gobert is the man! He has had some problems in the past, and I think he realizes the mistakes he had made, and he is ready to put his head down and kick some ass.
-- Matt Fletch
First of all, isn't it ironic that when V&H needed Anthony to show at PPIR last year the Go-Show was a No-Show, and now when no one needs him...he's there?
He couldn't be competitive on the Harley...no one can.
We know he can win on Ducati and with V&H on their way out maybe they'll throw caution to the wind (along with little John) and put Gobert in the seat. V&H won't hire him? That's what we used to say 'bout aforementioned Kocinski and Japanese manufacturers until Honda hired him for '97...
Suzuki doesn't need him...Mladin won't have him...
Yamaha...miserable season for them, that's the ride I'd like to see him on. It would be nice to see someone other than Haga putting that R7 to the test. It steers real well and that would work to his advantage at PPIR.
-- Sean Mac
It's obvious he has talent and it seems that he's "shaped up" a lot since Bimota's re-entrance into WSB. It would be interesting see who would win the Celebrity Death Match between Terry Vance and The Go-Show. Regardless, he has what it takes to win on any machine, IMO. If Gobert were to jump on any bike, I think he would get the best results on a 2-cylinder machine, simply because that's what he has the most seat time on lately. I'm still curious why Kawasaki didn't at least try Gobert out for a one race deal when Lavilla got in his bad accident. Anyway, whatever he gets on, as long as the team is a decently solid effort, he can win.
Keep up the good work on the page!
-- Jeff Grant
In my opinion, Gobert is easily on the list of top ten rider talents in Superbike racing Worldwide. Unfortunately he is such a natural that he seems to take his talent for granted. I don't think he is a particularly sensible or smart fellow. Imagine what a scary fast rider we'd get if we could combine the talent of Gobert with the attitude of Maladin, Troy Corser or the like? Too bad we'll probably never know...I think he has used up his nine lives in racing circles.
-- James Beck
You bet he could, he has done it before & he'll do it again & again & again.
Luke 'Rainey had the best bikes' Faehndrich
He could win on any superbike given him and also on a 125cc Husky that Eraldo agreed he could give Anthony to race for remainder of outdoor nationals MX season...if anthony is interested, have him call Eraldo or myself at 909-522-8922
-- Ms. Dornia Groves
Yes, if you put Goie on "nearly" any factory superbike, at Pike's or anywhere else, he would surely be a contender with a real shot at pulling off the win. And with some really big luck, he could even win on the HD at Pike's. After all, Picotte got second on that thing there last year. Add rain (do they run Pike's Peak in the rain?) and he could win it on a good Supersport bike. But you knew all that.
-- Garry Owen
No can deny that the "Go Show" is a natural talent. He's proven he can run fast on any kind of bike right out of the gate. Even when he's overweight and barely sober from the night before, his performances in the 98 and 99 AMA season attest to his skills. I know that his "un-professional" attitude and scattered style upset many and aggravate the establishment. It definitely bordered on tiresome in 99.
But, that's Anthony!
With Gobert, what you see is what you get: Balls-to-the-wall, uncompromising style and a burning desire to go flag-to-flag. I think he not only wants to win, but to win on his terms. The guy is fantastic to watch and I would say it's a toss-up between him, Fogarty and Haga-san as to who has the most cujones. If he is at Pikes Pike, it's because he "smells" a ride. I hope he is back next year.
One day, Anthony is going to grow up and start winning championships.
-- Chris Levintown
If ever there was a rider who could just jump on any bike and win, it would be Gobert. In my opionion he is undoubtedly the most naturally talented road racer around. He has the balls to ride a bike on the knife's edge regardless of the situation and the consequences. It's just a real pity he (and his management) can't get his private life in order to back up his talent on a consistant basis. God help his fellow competitors the day he gets his 'off track' shit together - he will be unbeatable. Virginio Ferrari seemed to have Gobert sorted out and headed in the right direction. It is a shame that they were both caught up in the Bimota fiascoe instead of getting access to a decent race bike from another factory. Let's hope he gets another chance before it's too late.
-- Matt Braid
First time I saw Go Show ride live was at Phillip Island in 1996 - he blew me away. Do you reckon I cheered when he pulled 10 secs every early lap in race 1 at PI 2000? Remember how he pestered Criville in the last race in 99, on a BSL? Laguna race 1 in 99 was another slap in the face to all the BIG names. He didn't destroy the KR3 like Cadalora did either! He even dominated 250 proddie racing back here in Oz in his spare time, dicing with his brother. Anthony has awesome talent and deserves a quality ride to showcase it. To my mind he should be teammates to either Haga or Chili.
-- Michael Mulder
South Australia
Only if it is raining and they move the race to Phillip Island !!
-- Gavin Menting
From the sound of things it wouldn't take much to convince Scott Russell to watch for a weekend. Anthony Gobert on the VR-1000 could be the beginning of something or a confirmation of the last couple of years for Scott and Pascal. Be a sport Harley Davidson, you've always cultivated that wild child image anyway. Hire one.
--- Rick Oestricher
Gobert could win on any bike except for the Harley Davidson. Nobody could win on that thing. Maybe Yamaha could finally win a race this year!
Here's a thought: Gobert and Russell to Yamaha, after which Russell can retire and Gobert can join Haga, since Guareschi just plain sucks.
-- Aaron Woell
Without a doubt, one of the most talented riders, ever. Too bad he can't seem to get the rest in place.
-- Tim McKinley
Anthony Gobert seems to have matured into a racer who is more concerned with the racing than anything else and it shows in his riding and his fitness since joining Bimota. Put Anthony on any bike in the paddock with the exception of the VR and you've got more than a passing chance of that bike finishing top 3.
-- Kim Murray
Yeah, he might be able to hop on a bike and do well with some set-up changes, but one question remains: Who would want him? A one-off win is just that, a one-off win. Given his past history of burning teams in one way or another, who would want to expose themselves to more than a one-off ride? And what would that gain them? -Timothy Brosnan
TG has proven he can win whenever and wherever he wants to. It's completely up to him. Sure wish Yamaha would put him on an R7. Only a handful of people in any generation rise to the top of their profession. In TG's case, only he standing in his own way. Sure do wish somebody would give the man a ride!
