Polen hospitalized in Texas

Sunday, August 20, 2000

Former AMA and World Superbike champion Doug Polen was admitted to a Denton hospital yesterday morning, say sources close to Polen.

Tests have shown that all of Polen's internal organs are enlarged, but the reason for the swelling has not yet been determined. Polen is in a great deal of pain and is on a moraphine drip.

Denton resident Polen will most certainly miss the FUSA round at Pocono next weekend.

While in Italy for World Ducati Weekend in June, Polen became gravely ill with food poisoning and spent the better part of two days in bed in his hotel room.

It is unknown if this is related to Polen's current illness.
