According to three time Kawasaki Superbike champion Doug Chandler, the Virginia International Raceway facility is a fun track and great facility. According to Chandler, it works for him.
About ten minutes after he stepped out of his green leathers, Chandler told AMASoup: "This is a nice place, a nice roadcourse. You kind of forget how neat these things are from what we usually have to run (converted Speedway tracks). It's got blind corners, elevation changes, crests. It's neat, and challenging."

Kawasaki tested there alone today and will be joined by Honda and other teams tomorrow.

Will it work for the AMA Superbike series? Chandler, the most respected veteran rider currently in the series, thinks so.

"I don't see any reason why not," he said. "We ran the short course today, that's about 2.2 miles and tomorrow we'll start out with the short course and go to the long course, which is about 3.3 miles. I think the long course will work too."

"It's a great place," said the former AMA F-1 rider. "It's kind of like Mid-Ohio. It's kind of looks like a small farm, all the buildings are like little barns, that's the theme."

"It's a good place," said Chandler.

VIR didn't just spring up out of the ground today when the AMA lads started turning wheels on it. It has been in existence since at least the 1970s. WERA raced there yesterday, with Randy Renfrow making some laps.
