Erion Honda rider Kurtis Roberts said this morning that he is close to a deal for next year with an as-yet unnamed manufacturer. "We're close, it'll be a few days, but it's definitely coming around," the youngest son of the King stated.
Roberts declined to be more specific about who he might be signing with. Current paddock rumor has him signing with either ...
Yamaha, to ride Superbike and 600 Supersport.
Suzuki, to be the youngest member of the Yoshimura team, riding both 600 Supersport and Superbike.
Competition Accessories Ducati.
Or current favorite on the Roberts Rumor Round-up is Erion Honda getting two RC51 Superbikes next year and Roberts staying with the team that has helped him bring home two Formula Extreme titles.
Roberts is in contention to win the 600 title with one round remaining and has been very fast on his limited Superbike rides this year (crashing several times as well).
Several of the teams are looking for new (younger) blood for their Superbike teams, and with Nicky Hayden all but signed up for next year with Honda, Roberts is among the riders with the most interest from the factories.
When Kurtis entered his first 250 GP race at Laguna Seca in April of 1997, Doug Chandler then said that he felt Kurtis was the fastest of the Roberts brood and may be capable of big things in the future.
