Contrary to popular opinion, Nick Hayden did not blast the lap record at Daytona on the 2002 HRC RC51 Superbike on the final day of the Dunlop tire test at Daytona.
Confusion reigned late in the day when Hayden made his fast lap, because Honda technicians had just rolled the oil-streaked HRC bike back down the pit lane after its engine had expired. Most thought Hayden got back on the repaired 2002 bike and cleaved the new record.
He didn't.
Kurtis Roberts was riding the HRC bike then.
Hayden was riding his 2001 bike, which makes the lap time all the more interesting.
