Yoshimura Suzuki rider Mat Mladin has the provisional pole for Sunday's
MBNA Superbike race. Mladin set a new motorcycle track record of 1:36.579,
breaking reigning Superbike Champion Doug Chandler's 1997 record of
1:37.080. The Australian Mladin has captured six poles to date this year.American Honda's Eric Bostrom was second-fastest in today's qualifying
session with a time of 1:37.660. Bostrom has won the last two MBNA
Superbike races, riding for the American Honda team in place of the injured
Miguel Duhamel. Bostrom was followed by Zippo Harley-Davidson rider Mike
Smith, who was clocked at 1:37.668. Muzzy Kawasaki's Doug Chandler was
fourth-fastest with a time of 1:37.716.Ben Bostrom, who rides for the American Honda team alongside brother Eric,
was ninth-fastest today with a time of 1:38.43. Ben Bostrom is tied with
Chandler for the series championship, which will be decided during Sunday's
MBNA Superbike season finale at LVMS.MBNA Superbike qualifying resumes tomorrow at 2:30pm.
PRO HONDA OILS 600 SUPERSPORT
Muzzy Kawasaki's Tommy Hayden was fastest in today's Pro Honda Oils 600
SuperSport practice session, with a time of 1:41.032. Hayden's front
straight radar speed was 143mph. Yoshimura Suzuki's Aaron Yates was
second-fastest with a time of 1:41.333, and San Gabriel Springs Suzuki
rider Steve Rapp wwas third-fastest with a time of 1:41.341.TEAMLINE 750 SUPERSPORT
Nicky Hayden, the 17-year old Team Suzuki Sport prodigy, was fastest during
today's Teamline 750 SuperSport practice session, posting a time of
1:41.650. Barnett Suzuki rider Rich Alexander was second-fastest, with a
time of 1:43.142. Series leader Steve Rapp was third-fastest aboard the San
Gabriel Springs Suzuki, with a time of 1:43.207.PIRELLI FORMULA XTREME
Eric Bostrom took the Erion Racing Honda to the pole position for
Saturday's Pirelli Formula Xtreme race. Bostrom, who has eight victories in
the series, won the series Championship at the last race with an
insurmountable 51-point lead. Bostrom set a new series track record today
at LVMS with a time of 1:39.673. Radar trap speeds showed Bostrom
approaching 160mph on the front straight at LVMS.Graves Yamaha rider Mark Miller has the number-two spot on tomorrow's race
grid. Canadian Michael Taylor has the number three spot, and Bostrom's
Erion Honda teammate and series second-place rider Tripp Nobles will take
the last spot on the front row.
