Gobert Groundhog Day
also, neck wounds are not cool

For Anthony Gobert and the factory Yamaha team, yesterday was a lot like Daytona. He spent the day trying to get the new front fork on the R7 dialed in after using it and abandoning it at Daytona.

"We're going fairly good," Gobert said last night. "We've got some new suspension pieces to test, so we're running through them and trying to find a set-up with the new fork. We're going in the right direction." Gobert set the fast time at the first Laguna Seca test of the season with a 1:25.5.

Gobert lapped third fastest on the R7 Superbike, at 1:26.8 versus Nick Hayden's 1:26.6, although other clocks caught him at 1:26.7.

Yesterday, Gobert rode the R6 Supersport bike in the morning, then the R7 in the afternoon. "We've got new suspension pieces there too," Gobert said.

Gobert was reported to have a broken clavicle from the 600 crash at Daytona where he went over the bars at a spirited 120mph (don't try this at home, kids). The clavicle was not broken, but Gobert did suffer a nasty puncture wound on the lower portion of his neck where a hunk of flesh was separated from his being. What the hell happened, anyway?

"I think, after looking at the 600 today, that I must have been hit with a chunk of the broken fairing or maybe the windscreen, it's all very sharp," Gobert said last night.

The injury Gobert suffered is particularly nasty, but the 'what if factor' cannot be ignored. For instance, what if that injury had happened a few inches up? That would have been very bad.

"Yeah, the doctor said that if that would have happened, the main artery in your neck is right there, I would have bled to death while laying on the track."
