Colin Edwards II, Honda:
Race One:

"That was pretty close," said Edwards. "It was difficult to know what to do at times. I knew I could let Troy through but then I couldn't afford him pulling away more than 0.7s. In the first part of the race I was comfortable running the times and holding the lead but then I saw the oil flags and I was held up at the chicane by a lapped rider so Troy closed in again."

Race Two:
What a day," said Edwards. "On paper the two race wins were ours but the job's still got to be done. My team has done a fantastic job, especially today when we needed it most. I knew what Troy's game was when he got in front and tried to slow the pace so Ruben could catch up. I had no choice but to get back in front and decide the championship that way."

"Troy's been really good about it, a great guy and he's given it everything today when he knew we were in better shape. It's great that it's all over, there's nothing else left but to party!"

Troy Bayliss, Ducati Corse:
"I really wanted to win the championship today" declared Troy. "I did everything right, and tried to slow Colin down in that second race but he also wanted to win and he knew what to do. I pulled a rabbit out of the hat in this morning's warm-up and got on the pace. The race was a real showdown, I did pretty good but it just wasn't enough. Whoever won today deserved it so congratulations to Colin!"

On 2003: "Everyone seems to know what I'm doing next year, but all I want to say is that I've been in World Superbike for three years now, I've had a really good time and the atmosphere is very friendly. I'm sorry to be leaving it, and I will certainly miss it".

Ruben Xaus, Ducati Corse:
We worked really well all weekend, it was just the starts were not so good for me today" commented Ruben. "We changed the clutch for the second race to try to get a bit more feeling and it was really good. I was so close to Colin and started to do 1'48s again but with a couple of laps to go I had a few problems and couldn't do any more to help Troy win the title. I tried my best, and I have to say that I've been learning a lot this year and it's been a real privilege to race against these two kings of Superbike."

Ben Bostrom, L&M Ducati:
"It's been a long year and the results haven't been what I expected. I'll miss all the people in World Superbike. A big thanks to all the guys at Ducati and L&M for the opportunity they gave me. I was planning to go out with the best result I could but just couldn't get the opportunity because things didn't go well at all for me today."

Hitoyasu Izutsu, Kawasaki:
'Tenth is a good result for me and I am very happy,' said Izutsu. 'On the last lap I had a chance to pass Bostrom, but I made a small mistake and it was not possible. My wrist is much improved and less painful now, but as the race went on it was becoming more difficult to ride. Having said that, my bike is good and my team have worked hard, so it has been possible for me to finish the year with an improved result.'

Chris Walker, Kawasaki:
'I got a brilliant start, one of the best this season,' said Walker. 'But then the left hand side of my tire overheated and fell apart. At the start it was okay, but it was just spinning and pushing sideways as the race went on. We have another tire that we can use, and that will definitely be going on the bike for race two.'

'I missed my braking marker into the last chicane and arrived there way too fast,' explained Walker. 'I thought about trying to tip it in, but there were two riders in front of me, so I had to sit it up and go straight on. I knew it would take a long time to turn around and re-join, so I decided to go straight down pit lane instead. Once I got back on track I made pretty rapid progress through the field, and I really enjoyed it. This is my last ride for the team and, although I'm looking forward to next year, I'm sad to be leaving the Fuchs Kawasaki squad, after what has been a hard but enjoyable year.'

Nori Haga, Aprilia:
"I'm pretty pleased with this result: I could have done better if I hadn't been held up in the first race. The duel with Neil Hodgson was great - my battle with him (is) not over yet: every time we meet we really fight it out.

Gregorio LaVilla, Suzuki:
"I am quite happy with my results today and enjoyed the races. The first race was a two-parter and I had done well in the first part and so had a better grid position for the restart. The Suzuki worked well today and I was able to push quite hard. It's always good to finish the day as the fastest 4-cylinder rider, but it's also nice to finish ahead of factory riders - like Ben Bostrom. It's been a long hard season and we have learnt a lot throughout the year and now it seems that we will have new things to learn for next year. However, I don't have much time to rest because I think we start testing in the next couple of weeks."

Frankie Chili, NCR Ducati:
"I'm really disappointed." - declared Chili after his stop - "Here in Imola I wished to make a good race. In the first heat the seventh place doesn't satisfy me too much, I had any feeling with the bike and I must ride not with my style. In race two the bike was a little bit better and I was looking to keep Toseland, not far from me, but suddenly the bike started to give out a strange noise. For sure it has been an electronic trouble, but to see if something more happened we must open the engine."

Peter Goddard, Benelli:
"It was one of those incidents where one minute everything is fine and you're just getting on with the race," explained Peter, "and then the next minute you're flying through the air wondering where and when you'll land!"
