250 GP Finale Today @ Barber
by evan williams
Sunday, September 21, 2003

Today's AMA 250 Grand Prix race will be the last, as the class has been "deep sixed" in next year's AMA Master Plan, which will consist of only four classes. With the move, a link to the past will be cut as the 250GP machines are the only purpose-built, race-only bikes in the current line-up. The rest are derived from street machines.

Two stroke Grand Prix -- or the Lightweight class, as they were once called -- have been around as long as anyone can remember.

Rich Oliver has won every race this year and will go for the season sweep later today.
