Notes:

Nick Hayden scored an impressive pole position today at Laguna Seca, the Honda rider putting the RC211V GP bike on point with a 1:22.670 lap, nearly a half-second faster than world champion Valentino Rossi.

Hayden posted a fast time early in the session and maintained that gap even though there were spirited runs behind him the leaderboard after pole position changing frequently. John Hopkins was impressive as were Rossi, Checa and Bayliss, the latter jumping up the board late in the session.
