Giving Dad a ride on your bike has never been so much fun.
The USGP is history and here's SuperbkePlanet.com's Super Seven.

1. Nicky Hayden, Honda -- The Kid won his first pole and GP race at Laguna in a weekend Colin Edwards described as "fairy tale". Especially touching was the ride he gave his father Earl on the victory lap and the tears as the anthem played.

2. Eric Bostrom, Ducati Austin -- Boz came up huge at Laguna, leading all 28 laps of the race. After struggling mightily in his first year plus on the Ducati 999, Bostrom won Pikes Peak, was running towards the lead in the wet at Elkhart before being collected in DuHamel's accident, finished fourth in the dry at Road America but was dicing for second, then won last weekend. That's a pretty good stretch.

3. Gauloises Yamaha -- Edwards and Rossi were second and third in the USGP. In a weekend that saw Yamaha pulling out the stops to celebrate their 50th anniversary, Rossi captivated the US fans in his first race in America and Edwards equalled his best GP result yet.

4. Aaron Yates, Suzuki -- Like most others in the AMA paddock, Yates sees his contract expire at the end on the season. Winning the Superstock number one plate will put him in demand and Yates won the Superstock race at Laguna. He now leads the championship by 10 points with three rounds to go -- not a large margin but enough of one to put the pressure on second-place Jason DiSalvo to close the gap. Yates also took third in Superbike at Laguna.

5. Jason DiSalvo, Yamaha -- DiSalvo saved Yamaha's bacon at Laguna, winning the only race for the brand at their 50th Anniversary celebration with his last corner pass in Supersport. This did nothing to dispel his reputation as being the last guy you want on your tail in the final lap of a race. Jason was also second in Superstock.

6. Mat Mladin, Suzuki -- Yeah, he didn't win the race or put on his usual dominating performance at a track he doesn't really dig, but Mat expanded his Superbike points lead to 31 over Ben Spies last weekend. His goal of championship number six got a little closer in Monterey with a pole and second place in Superbike.

7. The US motocycle roadracing community -- Before the event, many insiders viewed the USGP as a disaster waiting to happen. Laguna offers a challenging set of circumstances in the best of times -- an odd track, ghastly traffic issues, a media center that is actually a tent, etc -- and Dorna's scary inch-thick contract with the promoters put even more pressure with less control on the organizers. The AMA regulars have been complaining about pass issues and the reduced-sized grids left a lot of privateers staying at home or buying a ticket. Then the GP riders started bagging the circuit as unsafe and those rumors of a rider revolt ...

But the event went off smoothly enough (considering) and the huge fan turnout got their Grand Prix jones taken care of in 2005. If Laguna can improve a few things, the USGP won't be just a one-time success.
