Prime Viewing

Okay, admittedly the film that I am now going to mention is not exactly one that most Soup Army types will line up for en masse to see. The genre "romantic comedy" gets thrown around a great deal when describing movie types, but we're all probably a lot more comfortable calling these films "chick flicks". And the current release Prime is very definitely a chick flick.

A "chick flick" with MotoGP scenes, that is.

Right smack-dab in the middle of the Meryl Streep/Uma Thurman movie it is revealed that the male lead—played by Bryan Greenberg—is big time MotoGP fan. There's plenty of evidence that he is, such as:

A framed poster of Mick Doohan sliding the Honda Repsol 500GP bike (this will be a scene inside the lead male character's bedroom ... it sits above his head).

A framed Valentino Rossi race poster (on Yamaha livery) on his apartment wall (later in the movie). Poster is yellow with the Rossi riding a power wheelie.

Uma Thurman will come home to find him watching Speed TV's coverage of a MotoGP race with a duel going on between Rossi and Gibernau. Rossi is riding the blue Yamaha and Gibernau riding the Telefonica Movistar RC211V. He says to Thurman, something to the effect of "I just watched the Malaysian Grand Prix".

Possibly the most interesting part in all of this didn't happen on celluloid. When the footage of Rossi and Gibernau flashed on the screen, four or five men of varying ages, from around the theater (there with dates, mind you) all simultaneously exclaimed "Cool!".
