NASCAR Superstar and multi-time champion Jeff Gordon, a racer who is also a mainstream celebrity in the United States--Gordon once hosted the iconic US comedy show Saturday Night Live--is disgusted by Dani Pedrosa's controversial pass of Nicky Hayden at the Estoril GP.
Gordon was a guest co-host on Dave Despain's Speed TV show Wind Tunnel Sunday evening and commented on the now infamous pass/crash that dealt a serious blow to Nick Hayden's MotoGP championship hopes.
Gordon admitted to being a MotoGP fan, saying that he watches the races on television.
Discussing the incident, Despain asked Gordon, "So, you'd kill him (Pedrosa)?"
Gordon said in an exasperated tone, "Oh man, I tell you what (shaking head). That was a tough one to handle. I watch a little bit of MotoGP and I know it was an accident; he didn't mean to do it, but you just question, why are you racing your teammate like that, a late charge into the corner and take a risk when he's trying to win a championship? I felt like it was a bad mistake."
Gordon pointed out the basic theme many veteran race watchers have mentioned: Pedrosa had no business racing that hard with his teammate.
"Whether you're trying to win a championship or a race," the American said, "you've got to use your head. The only way you're going to have success is by knowing when to be aggressive and when to be patient."
Gordon is known to be a friend and big fan of Colin Edwards II's.
