Double Secret Zero Tolerance?
by dean adams

It's well known that Mid-Ohio doesn't allow for even the hint of any shenanigans at their facility. They have on-site police who will arrest or, threaten to arrest you, for seemingly even the most minor of offenses or non offenses (last year I got to have an extensive chat with a police officer on the grounds for simply turning the wrong way in the parking lot).

Several friends of Soup have had, ah, shall we say, uncomfortable, sessions with the local police on the Mid-Ohio grounds. Kevin Schwantz, etc.

What is ironic about all of this is that the Mid-Ohio facility seems to attract one of the best-behaved crowds on the US Superbike tour; outside of the campground at night, the event features none of the debauchery of the old Animal Hill at Loudon, turn three crowd at Brainerd, the back section at Road Atlanta or the porn movie shoot at Willow years ago. Mid-Ohio is a pretty sedate and enthusiastic crowd.

However, a local media outlet is warning that the local police won't be letting anyone off too easy, in fact, this year, they're stepping up enforcement. They'll have officers from two police departments plus the Ohio hiway patrol on hand and will also have plain clothes officers there to "saturate" the area around the track and other events in the area.

Judging from the news report, the officers will be targeting motorcyclists in their increased enforcement efforts.
