Rapp won the Daytona 200 in March

The Soup Army trivia challenge for the past week ... to find an active rider in the US who has won AMA Nationals on three brands of tires.

So far, we've only discovered one man to accomplish the task -- popular veteran Steve Rapp. When Rapp won the Daytona 200 earlier this year on Pirellis, he added to his resume of previously winning races on both Dunlops and Michelins.

Speaking of tires, the AMA tire battle has shaped up nicely this year. Dunlop is still the top dawg, dominating in Superbike and fighting Pirelli in the support classes.

Pirelli has continued to improve this year. Bikes wearing the Italian rubber routinely make the podium in Supersport and Formula Xtreme. Steve Rapp, Mike Barnes, Ben Attard, Geoff May, and Martin Cardenas have been on the box in this year for Pirelli. The company is so competitive now that just making the podium isn't really a big news story anymore like it once was.

While the support classes are where the battle is, Dunlop has released some new tires in Superbike, too. At Mid-Ohio, Big D brought out the latest version of their "N-Tech" rear tire and also had multi-compound front tires for the Superbike boys. The new stuff was the tire of choice over the weekend.

Spec tires may be all the rage in some series, but we think tire constructor competition is good.
