Erion Honda's Josh Hayes continues to impress in 2007. He won both his races in Virginia, taking victories in Formula Xtreme and Supersport.
It was the third time this year he's won both races in a single weekend, having won both classes at Barber, Infineon, and now VIR.
Hayes ruled FX from the front for much of that contest, but Supersport was a different game altogether. The first leg of the race saw him fight with Graves Yamaha's Josh Herrin until Herrin crashed out, bringing out a red flag.
The second start saw him lead but Hayes felt pressure from Martin Cardenas early on. Having Cardenas on the tail of his CBR600RR was a blessing and a curse, he said after the race. Hayes needed someone to finish between himself and the Kawasakis to help him in the points, but Cardenas pushed Hayes a little more than the Erion Honda rider wanted.
"That race felt like a double with the red flag in the middle," he said afterward.
Jamie Hacking helped Hayes close a little more on points leader Roger Hayden in the championship. Hacking passed his teammate in turn 14 on the final lap. Hayes is now 18 points behind Hayden and seven behind Hacking with just two races to go.
In related news, Hayes has a massive points lead in Formula Xtreme, and he can clinch the title at Road Atlanta.
