The first Mid-Ohio Superbike practice session turned into a crash fest. Ben Spies and Luca Scassa crashed at the chicane before the keyhole, bringing out red flags.

Then at the very end, Roger Hayden and Miguel Duhamel both fell at the keyhole. Then Gary Mason crashed in turn two.

Jake Zemke's Honda showed the tell-tale signs of having fallen, as well - a dusty, scratched fairing. However, Soup has since learned that Zemke did not crash in this session.

The AMA threw the checkered flag early.

Despite his crash, Spies was nearly a half-second under his lap record set last season.
