Erion Honda's Josh Hayes won the Formula Xtreme race by 5.474, and he led from start to finish. Sounds like a boring race, doesn't it? Well, it was not. It was most decidedly not boring.

Attack Kawasaki's Ben Attard held onto second place, and his position looked secure until the last few laps of the race. Celtic Racing's Chaz Davies rode like an Irishman possessed and almost pipped Australian Attard at the finish line. Davies was riding his Supersport bike...in Formula Xtreme. He blew up his FX engine on Friday and had no choice but to thrash his Supersport Yamaha YZF-R6. 17-inch wheels. DOT tires. Stock suspension. More like the middleweight sportbike you ride on the street than any other FX bike on the track.

In the latter stages of the race, Davies passed Larry Pegram on his Ducati 748R and Steve Rapp on his Attack Kawasaki ZX-6R. When all was said and done, Davies had a best lap of just 3/10 of a second slower than Josh Hayes on his high-zoot CBR600RR. Josh Hayes--the guy with the big number 1 on his fairing.
