Looks like the British Summer is going to do its best to ruin a few weekends. It threw it down with rain during
the first day of the Donington GP but one guy who was smiling was Nicky Hayden. It looks as if his time at the
Barcelona test wasn't the result of having more time than usual to get his bike set up. In this morning's session
he was 0.03sec slower than pace setter Casey Stoner and this afternoon 0.4 slower than the surprise fastest man
Dani Pedrosa. It looks as if Repsol Honda have found a few answers. Aggregate the sessions and the order is
Stoner, Hayden, Pedrosa, so Michelin are happier than they've been for a while although the feeling is that
their tires are happiest under light rain and the Bridgestones
Stoner took time to call the Donington surface, always unpredictable in the wet, 'dangerous' in the Ducati team
press release. It certainly was this morning, we were treated to the unusual sight of Rossi on the floor at
Macleans and Pedrosa, Vermeulen and other running off track. Kawasaki's replacement of Olivier Jacque with rain-
master Anthony West suddenly looks an inspired signing. OJ has said that he wants to continue to test but is now
retired from competition.
Valentino Rossi also had some criticism for a circuit, this time Misano which he described as 'Sh*t' in front of
a large crowd at Thursday's Day of Champions charity fund-raiser. When asked to expand on his description, he
reckoned there was nowhere to pass, it is bumpy and a couple of corners had questions over their safety. No-one
mentioned the Supersport 600 bike that landed in row two of the grandstand...
The only certainty is that it will continue to rain through the weekend. The question is how much and when. It
looks certain that qualifying will be wet but race day will hopefully be colder but dry. Which raises the
prospect of the MotoGP field lining up for a dry race with no dry practice...
