SuperbikePlanet.com is live from Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, site of this weekend's round of the AMA Superbike championship.
Road America is truly a distinct event, held on a 4.0-mile circuit in the heartland of America. The racing is good, the food is fantastic, and it is a great place for fans to come watch a race.
It's a different type of viewing experience than, say, Barber where you can see most of the track. Road America is a function of the natural geography of the area and there are some great viewing locations.
There have been a lot of great races at Elkhart. Remember Rich Arnaiz winning after the leaders crashed in 1989? Mladin winning, first on the Ducati and then Suzuki? Alex Gramigni winning in the wet for Ferracci? Nicky Hayden doing the double for the first time? The Rapp crash? Polen sandbagging? Aaron Yates winning in Supersport, then crashing on the cool-off lap? Duhamel and Gobert winning here. There are seemingly countless other great Elkhart memories
The weather currently has some fog in the area. The temps are supposed to be rather coolish (high around 70) and there is a chance of thunderstorms all three days. If you were planning on coming out, don't let that stop you. You won't melt.
Check back all weekend for news, results, and photos.
