Rubber Soul: Kenny Roberts & The YouTube Generation
by sean bice

As the years have gone by, there are more and more humans walking this earth who weren't even, well, walking this earth when Kenny Roberts (the Elder) terrorized the tracks and other riders in Europe. And they certainly weren't around when KR raced both on dirt ovals and asphalt road course in the AMA's Grand National series.

And those who were actually around when Kenny's yellow-and-black visage was all the rage are probably getting too senile to remember all the way back to the late-70s and early-80s—when men were men and knee pucks were made of duct tape.

But the legend lives on (from the Chippewa on down), and Kenny's popularity seems to be proliferating with the onset of modern technology. For example, YouTube, which seemingly has video clips of ev-er-y-thing, has a cool little compilation of KR in his prime, racing against the likes of Barry Sheene, Marco Lucchinelli, and Randy Mamola.

Sample it here, so that you, too, can be youtubed into Kenny Roberts, the man, the legend, the don of the Modesto Mafia.
