Dorna's possible move to a mono-tire rule in 2008 was met with surprise by manufacturers and tire suppliers alike. Where, exactly, this move had its impetus was then unknown but HRC were strongly suspected of being the spark that ignited the flame. HRC sources expressed surprise as well when the announcement was made.
European press reports suggest that the blame--or credit--depending on how one looks at the situation, may lie with Valentino Rossi. Bridgestone's tire chief leveled those charges at Rossi last week.
If so this can only be seen as Rossi not having the confidence he had in Michelin's product one year ago.
