Greetings from the biggest damn racetrack I've ever seen in my entire life.
Soup comes to you this morning from the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indianapolis, Indiana. Today, Nicky Hayden will make the historic first lap of the new motorcycle road circuit (sixteen turns, 2.62 miles long including part of the Indy oval) on a 1909 Indian that raced the first ever event here at Indy in '09. Afterwards he will do some laps on a "Honda racing bike".
According to press materials furnished by the Speedway, Indianapolis Motor Speedway is "is the largest spectator sporting facility in the world". After standing inside the grounds here, I don't doubt that claim at all. This place is enormous and contains within it a small city of infrastructure and other buildings.
We're a few minutes away from Nicky donning his leathers and climbing on the Indian motorcycle. Nick did some laps of the new track in a car yesterday and if you didn't catch him on Wind Tunnel last night, we interviewed him on Soupkast afterwards. That interview, Webmaster Tim willing, should be live on iTunes in a few hours--just search for Soupkast by Honda.
More later.
