These are Infineon's pit notes:
--Top three times from provisional qualifying for AMA Superbike:
1. Ben Spies (Suzuki GSX-R1000) 1:35.840
2. Mat Mladin (Suzuki GSX-R1000) 1:36.423
3. Jason Disalvo (Yamaha YZF-R1) 1:36.600
4. Eric Bostrom (Yamaha YZF-R1) 1:36.655
BEN SPIES (FIRST): "The last two laps I did were 35.8s. We just stayed on the same tires the whole way and I guess the time that would've put it on pole, even if we hadn't gone faster, came at the end of the original set of tires, which was good. The bike is working good. We're working more on race set-up. It's hot out there, so the track record wasn't really going to happen today. It was pretty good and hopefully there's more to come tomorrow.... We're struggling in a couple of areas, but they're areas that as long as we can make a couple minor changes to the bike, it should fix it. "
"I was a little worried that we'd missed testing and usually you try to work into things and go lap by lap. But we just tested last week in Salt Lake, and I would rather ride a week before at a different track than test here a few months ago. The bike seems to be working good and it's the first time we've had these forks on it. The bike's working good and I'd say it's in the ball park of being where I want it to race. Usually you're trying to find stuff, but the bike is really good and I feel comfortable on it. It's not perfect, but it's right there."
JASON DISALVO (THIRD): "Actually the bike that we put down in the morning is the bike I put my fast time on in the afternoon. The Yamaha crew did a great job getting that bike back together. They had fastened the last clip on the bodywork and it was time to go. They fired it right up and rode it down, and I hopped on it and rode it out on the track. Hat's off to those guys for getting that thing back together, it was pretty thrashed after this morning's practice. The track is a little slippery out there. We went a little bit faster than we did this morning. Everybody's looking to up their times tomorrow morning for second qualifying. That's going to be the time when the fast times start to come and the track cools off, the grip will come up a little bit. It's great to see all the fans out here on Friday. That's the great thing about Infineon, you guys draw big crowds early."
Why he is so successful at Infineon Raceway: "It's just a lot of fun to ride on. It's a lot of ups and downs, nice and flowing, and pretty technical. I always ride better when I'm having fun and this place definitely delivers in that department."
--Top four times from qualifying for Lockhart Phillips USA Formula Xteme:
1. Jake Zemke (Honda) 1:36.853
2. Steve Rapp (Kawasaki) 1:37.185
3. Josh Hayes (Honda) 1:37.678
4. Chaz Davies (Kawasaki) 1:37.949
*--Denotes track record. Josh Hayes had prior record of 1:37.244 set in 2007.
JAKE ZEMKE (FIRST): "It went good. This morning we were struggling a little bit to get the bike to do what I wanted it to do, but the crew made some changes and the bike was 100 times better. We went straight out on race tires and I think we ran six laps in .37s We threw a (qualifying tire) on there and made it in to the .36s and called it good."
"This track is one of the better tracks we go to on the circuit for the riders. It's very technical, and there's no time to rest. It's going to be a lot of laps to get around here for the entire race. For this race it's important to be on the front row and a good start is a good way to go. It's going to take a lot of fast laps to win. A lot of fast consistent laps and that's what wins a race."
STEVE RAPP (SECOND): "Every year I come here I want to win here, but it's not that easy. The bike was great, you just have to put it all together. It doesn't take much to miss two-tenths and miss the pole. We made a change right before qualifying and it was definitely better. The Pirelli tires are good and we're getting better."
JOSH HAYES (THIRD): "The bike's not working too bad. Unfortunately on an awesome Dunlop Q I went just as fast as a Dunlop race tire. It comes down to me and I was quicker this morning. We'll just do our homework and see if we can make it race better tomorrow."
CHAZ DAVIES (FOURTH): "It was not that great and I went out early with a race tire and I think that was the quickest lap. I didn't make a really good run with Qs with traffic and then cramped up in the final Q. It wasn't that good really, but the front row is really important here. It's difficult to overtake, so I'm happy about that."
Thoughts about the track? "It's good. It's a challenge. The heat's not making it any easier. It's very hot out there and it's a physical track. It's a challenge for everybody, but it could make an interesting race tomorrow. I think it'll be quite exciting."
