Three-time US Superbike champion Ben Spies ended his first day of testing by posting lap times just a tick off those put in by Nori Haga last Sunday in the Portugal races. He was the fastest rider on the day.

"I'm pretty happy," Spies said after testing finished today. "The bike is working well and this day has answered so many questions for me. It's a wonderful motorcycle and the team is just great. I had some questions about the Pirellis but they are good as well, whether they're new or used, they work great."

Spies will continue to test at Portugal tomorrow as will his teammate Tom Sykes and several others.
