60 Degrees at 1000 FPS

Wednesday, July 13, 2011

Red Bull has produced and released a video promoting the upcoming Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix on July 15-17 at Laguna Seca and Red Bull Indianapolis GP on Aug. 26-28 at Indianapolis.

But this is no ordinary "Sunday, Sunday, SUNDAY!" cheesefest filled with MTV-style quick cuts and gratuitous skin shots of jiggly umbrella girls (not that there's anything wrong with that).

The one-minute, 40-second video features commentary from Red Bull-sponsored Casey Stoner as video shows him leaning 60 degrees-plus into a corner at the super-duper slow-mo rate of 1,000 frames per second. That's one of those incomprehensible figures, sort of like 20,000 RPM in a MotoGP engine.

Simple explanation: It's really slow. As in body movement with a ferocious hangover slow. And it's also very cool, something to show your friends who like NASCAR, IndyCar or F1 and don't quite get the appeal of racing on two wheels.
