Recently re-retired Formula One legend Mike Schumacher participated in a motorcycle track day last week at the Paul Ricard circuit in France with Isle of Man TT star John McGuinness, four-time 500cc World Championship runner-up Randy Mamola, Moto2 title contender Pol Espargaro and Prodigy singer Keith Flint.
Avid motorcyclist, Schumacher competed in selected German Superbike races in 2008 during his first retirement from F1. He also rode the Yamaha R1 WSBK machine in Portugal in that same period. From our eyes, it looked afterward like he was giving the Yamaha WSBK data guys quite a schooling, and they were taking copious notes.
"Riding with Michael was so good," McGuinness said. "What he's achieved on four wheels makes him the Godfather of motorsport. "I wasn't expecting him to be anything less, but he's fast. You can see his enthusiasm for motorcycles, and it was a massive pleasure to spend the day with him."
Schumacher was impressed by his two-wheeled company.
"Coming here today, I felt so proud to be able to turn my hand at riding a bike with guys I really admire," Schumacher said. "I can't begin to explain how much fun it was to ride the track with the likes of John, Randy, Keith and watching Pol Espargaro's huge talent."
Schumacher has taken a Ducati ride through Texas several times in the past and it won't surprise us at all if he attends the Austin MotoGP event.
