Rumors in Rossi circles suggest that the Italian may buy his own team for 2013.

Forbes Magazine put out their highest paid athlete list this week and Italian Valentino Rossi sits in position number twenty. Forbes states, with no sources listed, of course: "His contract to race for Ducati pays him $17 million annually." Forbes also states that Rossi made $13 million last year in "endorsements".

Okay then.

Best rumors coming from close to the Rossi inner circle are that he is now considering buying a satellite MotoGP team and will race for himself in 2013. Unless a stirring turnaround takes place—or Ducati's race chief Filippo Preziosi is forced out—one finds it hard to believe that Rossi will do a third season on a Ducati MotoGP bike, meaning he may have to buy his way into a Honda or Yamaha MotoGP team.

If the Forbes numbers are accurate, Rossi could easily afford any satellite team in the GP paddock.
