Big Ransom Ensures Vinales' Escape

It seems crazy in an era in which riders must bring six-figure budgets to MotoGP teams for a Claiming Rule Teams machine, but someone associated with Moto3 standout Maverick Vinales had a rumored 500,000 euros sitting to extricate Vinales from his contract with Blusens Avintia so he could sign Tuesday with JHK t-shirt Laglisse for the 2013 Moto3 season.

The huge fee was paid to buy Vinales out of his contract with Avintia, with which he had re-signed for 2013 and 2014 before sensationally walking out on the team before the Sepang race in October. Vinales returned to the team a week later at Phillip Island, but nearly everyone in the Grand Prix paddock figured it would be just a matter of time before euros changed hands and Vinales left for a team that could provide him with factory KTM machinery.

Vinales tested Laglisse's factory KTM Tuesday at Almeira, reportedly turning laps one-half second quicker than the circuit record for Moto3-spec bikes. He won five races and finished third in the Moto3 championship this season on Avintia's FTR-Honda.

Laglisse also confirmed it has signed Spanish teen Ana Carrasco to become the first female rider in Moto3, starting next season.
