European media reported there may be as many as 28 bikes on the MotoGP grid during the height of Silly Season rumor-spreading in June and July.
But now it appears there will be 24 full-time machines - the same as this season - on the starting grid next March under the lights in Qatar, according to a German report.
The reasons for subtraction are simple. One, Suzukiah"postponed" its return as a factory team until 2015 after a presumed Come To Jesus meeting with Dorna. Two, standout Moto2 team Marc VDS abandoned plans to climb from the intermediate class with championship leader Scott Redding and instead released Redding to sign for Gresini Honda, which probably will be announced this weekend at Redding's home Grand Prix at Silverstone. And three, it appears Lukas Pesek's on-again, off-again money problems at CameIoda Racing are back on, at least for next season.
Keeping the grid at the current size makes sense, especially since Bridgestone is contracted to supply a maximum of 24 riders through its existing deal with Dorna.
