Title favorites topped the time charts Wednesday during the Moto2/Moto3 test at Valencia, with Pol Espargaro leading Moto2 and Maverick Vinales staying ahead in Moto3.
2012 Moto2 championship runner-up Espargaro was quickest in Moto2 at 1:35.520 on his HP Tuenti Pons Kalex, four-tenths of a second quicker than the top lap turned by Nico Terol on Tuesday. Terol continued his impressive form Wednesday by ending up second at 1:35.733 on his Aspar Suter, while Thomas Luthi was third at 1:35.947 on an Interwetten Suter.
With the climb of champion Marc Marquez to MotoGP, Espargaro enters the 2013 season as the Moto2 title favorite. He won four races and scored seven other podium finishes last season.
Vinales improved his best time to 1:40.168 on a Laglisse KTM, nearly six-tenths quicker than his pace-setting lap Tuesday.
KTM riders took the top three spots Wednesday after occupying the first four positions Tuesday. Alex Rins was second at 1:40.408, with Luis Salom third at 1:40.435.
Romano Fenati was the quickest non-KTM rider, fourth at a distant 1:40.911 on a Team Italia FTR Honda.
