Moto2 championship contender Thomas Luthi will miss the first two races of the 2013 season, on April 7 at Qatar and April 21 at Austin, while recovering from surgery to repair multiple fractures of his broken right upper arm and a shoulder injury suffered in a crash Feb. 14 during testing at Valencia.

Luthi collided with Ratthapark Wilairot and fell hard into the gravel on his Interwetten Suter. Luthi hopes to make his season debut May 5 at Jerez.
