Former CRT rider and new Ducati test rider Michele Pirro will compete as a wild card on a Ducati GP13 this season at Jerez, Mugello and Misano, new team boss Bernhard Gobmeier confirmed this week at the Wrooom preseason publicity event.
Italian Pirro, 26, raced the entire 2012 season on an FTR-Honda Claiming Rules Team machine for Gresini but fled for a testing role at Ducati after becoming disillusioned with the CRT concept.
Ducati chose those three tracks for Pirro's wild-card outings because they are the company's favorite test tracks, Gobmeier said.
"Pirro will have a lot of test miles on the clock," Gobmeier said. "Racing commitments help him stay sharp. Such a young rider also needs opportunities to confirm his abilities."
