When Dorna was granted promotional rights to World Superbike last year by Bridgepoint, many observes and media in the WSBK and MotoGP paddocks figured Dorna would try to elevate its longtime promotional property MotoGP by emasculating WSBK both technically and financially.
Not true, said Dorna's Javier Alonso, the right-hand man of Dorna boss Carmelo Ezpeleta. Alonso has been tasked by Ezpeleta as the new executive director of WSBK.
"There are things to improve, but this championship has a history, the legacy is good," Alonso said to German media. "Improvements will not happen from one day to the morning, but we are working step by step on it. We will work very hard to make the World Superbike even better.
"Our goal must be to make the medium with the World Superbike Championship so much money that we will be able to pay the teams. With the current revenue that is impossible."
