Martin Cardnas won his first Superbike race as a Yoshimura rider today at Daytona. He had taken the lead when series champ Josh Hayes' bike rattled to a stop in turn one after a reported engine failure. Larry Pegram ran in second place for a time but finished third. Saturday's winner, Josh Herrin, led briefly but finished second after riding off the course and having to re-join the race. His bike caught a false neutral as he braked into turn one and he rode off. Herrin, also, has been suffering with arm pump all week, probably caused by scar tissue in his wrist.

Cardenas' margin of victory 11.4 seconds. He said this was the most imprtant win of his career. He said that he saw Hayes take his feet off the pegs as they crossed the start/finish line and knew that the Yamaha rider had suffered an engine issue.

Herrin said that the fast lap times came easily when he was behind Hayes and that this was a learning weekend for him.

Cardenas praised the US-made Dunlop tire which he used for his win.
