The M*A*S*H World Tour of Ducati rider Michele Pirro will receive another passport stamp this weekend when he will replace the injured Carlos Checa on an Alstare Ducati in the World Superbike race at Magny-Cours.
Ducati test rider Pirro probably has raced more in 2013 than he could have imagined before the season. He has made nine MotoGP starts this season in a mix of substituting for the injured Ben Spies on the Pramac Ducati and racing the "lab" version of the GP13.
Pirro will make his WSBK debut at Magny-Cours. But he has experience at the French circuit in World Supersport and Superstock. He will ride the improving Panigale - which has benefited from fuel-tank position and geometry changes - on which Niccolo Canepa qualified fourth last weekend at Laguna Seca.
Checa, who turns 41 on Oct. 15, is out for the year with a fractured pelvis. WSBK paddock whispers are starting to indicate he may retire after this season.
