Sito Pons created a potential powerhouse team in Moto2 in 2014 with two strokes of the pen this week, signing Moto3 standouts Luis Salom and Maverick Vinales to his team for next season.
Spaniards Salom and Vinales are 1-2 in the Moto3 standings this season, with Salom holding a 26-point edge in the standings. They have combined to win eight of the 11 Moto3 races this season.
The signings marked a rapid recovery for the team led by two-time 250cc World Champion Pons. The top two riders in his 2013 lineup, Pol Espargaro and Tito Rabat, announced recently plans to leave the team after this season.
Espargaro is jumping to MotoGP to replace Cal Crutchlow at Tech 3 Yamaha, and Rabat is replacing the MotoGP-bound Scott Redding at Marc VDS.
The elder Pons, one of the best 250 riders of the early 1990s, also enters his son, Axle, on a third Moto2 bike.
