It's been a quiet season for former AMA Supebike champ and WSBK winner Ben Bostrom. The former Yamaha, Honda, Ducati and Jordan Suzuki rider hasn't raced a Superbike this year but is known to be racing his bicycle and has aspirations to race a motorcycle again.
Carlos Checa being extracted from the WSBK season with his crash in Turkey had us wondering if Alstare Ducati would slide Bostrom on the bike for Laguna Seca.
However, Ducati test rider and former MotoGP competitor Niccolo Canepa will replace the injured Carlos Checa at the next World Superbike round, next weekend at Laguna Seca. Checa is out for the season after undergoing surgery Thursday to repair a fractured pelvis suffered in a crash at the Nurburging WSBK round.
It's obvious that an entire generation of Ducati Superbike riders are no longer in the mix. Foggy is long retired, of course. Neil Hodgson, Troy Bayliss and Ruben Xaus have all retired as well, although Hodgson is the only one we feel really retired on anything close to his own terms.
Bostrom was always the kid of the group and we remain hopeful we'll see him race a Superbike again.
