Two of the smallest Claiming Rules Team outfits in MotoGP, Paul Bird Motorsport and Cardion AB, named replacement riders to fill empty seats this weekend at the Grand Prix of Aragon.
Former Ferracci MV Rider Luca Scassa will ride Cardion AB's Aprilia.
Australian Damien Cudlin will replace Yonny Hernandez, who left PBM to substitute for the injured Ben Spies at Pramac Ducati, probably for the rest of the season. Italian Scassa is substituting for Karel Abraham, out of the season after finally giving in to surgery after Misano due to a shoulder injury suffered in a crash last month at Indianapolis.
Cudlin has MotoGP experience, filling in for two events in 2011 as a substitute for the injured Loris Capirossi and Hector Barbera. Cudlin also has competed in Moto2. He is second this season in the German Superbike series.
Scassa will make his World Championship debut after racing in World Superbike, World Supersport, British Superbike and AMA. He is sixth this season in the World Supersport standings on a Kawasaki.
The FIM and Dorna required Cardion AB owner Karel Abraham Sr. to hire a replacement rider with MotoGP or World Superbike experience, which prevented the elder Abraham from signing a Czech to satisfy homeland sponsors. It's uncertain whether Scassa will continue with the team past this weekend.
