What Now For Brad Smith?

Today's not too shocking announcement from Movistar Yamaha that Jorge Lorenzo has signed a new two-year deal means that the available "silly season" slots in MotoGP are closing up fast. Riders with contracts for 2015 and beyond include the aforementioned Lorenzo, Pol Espargaro, Valentino Rossi, Dani Pedrosa, Marc Marquez, Andrea Dovizioso, Cal Crutchlow and Stefan Bradl.

Bradl has signed a multi-year deal with Forward Yamaha. Aleix Espargaro says that the plan is to ride for Suzuki next year, but there is no contract as yet.

Smith is either in a very good place or a very bad place. It's good that he's as yet unsigned for next season as the chances of him being re-signed by Tech 3 seem better with each passing day. If not him, then who? However it's potentially a very bad thing that he's not signed because if the Tech 3 ride goes to another rider, most of the really good slots for available rides are filled.

Smith said today that although he's not yet signed, he refuses to think that he is now riding for his job.
