At Indy on Saturday night Tech 3 rider Bradley Smith sat on a scooter and someone asked him what his status is for 2015.
The cherub-faced Brit rider looked down, his face even redder than normal, and said semi-dejectedly, "They haven't found a replacement rider yet."
Smith's 2014 hasn't been much like his brilliant 2013 season in MotoGP, aside from he now has a finger ground down nearly to the bone from a bad race crash. It's been a tough year and when you're a new-ish face in MotoGP it can be a tough place to keep your job. The rising tide of Latin riders in the smaller classes don't help your cause.
Thankfully Smith and Tech 3 have come to an agreement which will see that entertaining young man continue on at the satellite Yamaha squad.
However, Smith's deal is for just one more additional year, not a two year extension like those signed by Pedrosa, Rossi, Marquez and Lorenzo.
