Jordan To Bounce Back With Wild Card Moto2 Rider?
by staff
Wednesday, February 19, 2014

It has been unusually quiet on the Michael Jordan front since the former NBA man closed down his DMG Superbike team. It's known that a many of the former Jordan team crew have found other positions in and out of the motorcycle racing industry, suggesting that Jordan won't be re-forming a domestic motorcycle race team anytime soon.

Jordan's squad raised eyebrows when they pulled out of the DMG series at the final round of the championship at Laguna Seca and instead raced the Laguna Seca WSBK races. Shortly after that National Guard dropped their sponsorship of the DMG series and Jordan's team. Then Jordan shut down the team.

Ulrich: "Joe's contract with Team Hammer contains specific clauses that would allow him to take advantage of the right opportunity to advance his FIM World Championship aspirations. In this case, nobody has contacted Joe or his father, it doesn't involve an established FIM World Championship team, and it's probably just another rumor."
At that time, Jordan's representatives suggested that the NBA man was looking at opportunities in MotoGP or Moto2 for a possible 2014 team comeback. However, Jordan, at this time, has no known alliance with any teams or series.

That might be changing. FIM sources say that Jordan's group are inquiring about a possible Moto2 Wild Card ride at one of the US MotoGP events in 2014.

The rider mentioned with the Jordan rumors is teenager Joe Roberts who set the 2013 DMG Supersport series alight. It's know that Roberts is contracted to race the DMG series in 2014.

Known sources close to Michael Jordan did not return email requesting comment on these rumors.

Update: John Ulrich of Team Hammer Inc says "Joe's contract with Team Hammer contains specific clauses that would allow him to take advantage of the right opportunity to advance his FIM World Championship aspirations. In this case, nobody has contacted Joe or his father, it doesn't involve an established FIM World Championship team, and it's probably just another rumor."
