A dirty, green track frustrated the factory MotoGP bikes in the opening session of the '14 season. Both Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi said there was little grip from the rear. However, "Open" bikes were able to run a softer compound tire much to their advantage.
World champion Marc Marquez looked sore throughout the session and rode without any pain meds just to see if he could do it.
The session was red-flagged briefly when Yonny Hernandez crashed his Pramac Ducati. Hernandez was taken to the medical center with suspected collarbone or wrist injuries. Hernendez's tumbling Ducati scattered the track with rocks and gravel.
As the session ended, Yamaha's Lorenzo looked to be seething mad at the current state of affairs. He was making a spinning motion with his hands each time he spoke with a Bridgestone engineer.
Scott Redding didn't make many laps with his Honda suffering technical issues.
