When in Aruba, please do not forget to scuba

Former Homestead and Miami GP promoter Ralph Sanchez is in the process of building a track in Aruba (with help from the Aruban government) and wants to have a AMA Superbike race there in 2001. Sure, go ahead and shake your head like it's not gonna happen, Barrick is either in Aruba today or on his way there by invitation of the Aruban government, and they all seem to be going to great lengths for a race that some feel won't go down. They've cleared a spot for the track and will start building corners and straights  and other stuff pretty soon. How big will the track be? Well, the Island is only eight miles wide and fourteen miles long.

Future Nicky Hayden type kid Toby Jorgensen crashed big at the Dallas dirt track last weekend and is in the hospital in Dallas, pretty much all messed up after hitting the fence. Prayers needed.

Nicky Hayden will do the pre-event media tour in Colorado Springs this week. The original idea was to have him in Denver and Colorado Springs but with the promoter practice on Thursday of this week (orchestrated by the always cool MRA), Hayden will have to be behind the bubble on Thursday am.

Among the cool items up for bid at the stew goddard site is one item you definitely can't buy--anywhere. Kawasaki honcho Rob Muzzy has offered up his own personal torque wrench to help raise money for our pal Stew. This torque wrench is the very one Mr. Horsepower used to tune and build engines for Eddie Lawson, Wayne Rainey, Wes Cooley, Scott Russell, Doug Chandler, John Kocinski and many many others. The above image shows Muzz cira 1982 building a 150hp KZ1000 engine for Ed to use as a time/space portal.

Mat Mladin and most of the AMA  lads are already in Colorado, trying to get their lungs to work on less steam. The Suzuki dealer show is next week in Vegas and Mladin, Kipp, Pridmore etc will be there.

The King, Kenny Roberts, is home in Modesto and resting comfortably after his massive dirt bike crash in the land of few (speed) limits. He's been in to see Ting to get his wrist fixed, bought a boat, has started picking on people again. Seems like he'll be fine.

Kevin Schwantz to Suzuki for 2000? Maybe. The rumor is that he'll be an official coach for the Yoshimura team for next year, reunited with the team he won every Superbike national with. And Daytona. Anyway, Schwantz is in Vegas at the moment at a bicycle show but says he'll know more about what will be happening with him and Yosh in a few weeks. "I'd love to be part of Suzuki's American effort," the 1993 500cc world champion said this afternoon.

There's another motorcycle racing sim out. See it here.
