Phoenix off Y2K AMA Schedule

According to the AMA, work on the Phoenix International Raceway facility is not finished nor will it be finished for the 2000 season. Thus, the AMA and PIR have decided to bounce the race from the schedule for next year. "By no means does this reflect on the AMA or the great talent that they represent, we simply ran out of time to make the necessary changes that would accommodate all parties involved," said PIR Executive Vice-President and General Manager Robin Braig.

According to the AMA: The agreement affords both entities the proper amount of time to make the necessary adjustments that would give PIR, AMA and the riders a greater comfort level. "We just needed a little more time to effectively bring all of the pieces together," said AMA Road Race Manager Ron Barrick. "We will truly miss racing at PIR, and we look forward to working with the staff to bring the event back to our schedule.?

Both PIR and the AMA plan to meet throughout the coming year to address the return of the event to Phoenix.
