Thursday News

Roger Lee Gaurischi won't be riding the factory Yamaha this weekend, as he crashed his dirt bike back in Italy and pranged his wrist. No word on a replacement, but you can bet about three dozen Yamaha Japan riders are ready and willing.

Tonight is the big Honda fest at the Speedway Bar and Grill. DuHamel, Kurtis Roberts, Scott Russell and other luminaries will be there. Free Honda spray polish to a lucky few. Info: 949.675.5900

Pro-Thunder rule changes: My sources say these are the rule changes that'll probably take (or not take) place for Y2K Pro Thunder racing.

  • Ducati 748 displacement will remain the same as 1999.
  • Buell and other American bikes will get to use aftermarket cases, and the displacement rule for these machine's will remain static: 1350cc. 'sploding engine case syndrome will end.

The MRA end of season banquet is on November 6, not Oct. 30 as first announced.

Sanctioning bodies that will use the Aruba Motorsports Complex in 2000-2001 are Indy Lights, American LeMans and SCCA. And AMASuperbike in 2001 if things fall into place as expected. The track is 2.7 miles in length and in several places it overlooks the ocean much like Phillip Island.

Next Tuesday night there will be a large sport bike enthusiast meeting at Cookie's Cafe in Tustin California. Jason Pridmore might be there (might not) and the whole Two Brothers Racing armada will be there, with the truck, decals maybe some feebies for you to take home. Want more info? Call Cookie's at 714.258.2404. Yes, Rodan will be there, as will TBR Tom's CBR900RR Brit inspired naked bike.

Rob Muzzy has a bunch of miscellaneous stuff for sale up in Bend, including older Kawasaki Superbike parts, and intriguingly enough, a complete set of early RC30 bodywork (long story). Interested? Call Muzzy's and talk with Doug Meyer. 541 385 0706.

Hell hath no fury like a mechanic scorned. Joey Lombardo has joined Kawasaki as the #2 wrench on Eric Bostrom's Superbike and Supersport machines. Lombardo, Al Ludington and EBoz worked together in 1998, winning two AMA Superbike races for Honda. Lombardo worked on all of the latter 600 Supersport bikes Miguel DuHamel used to decimate the competition in the 600 class.

More later, maybe.
