Welcome to Welcom: It sounds like a major rider boycott is brewing at the South African Grand Prix this weekend. Unrest is in the air and it's not just because somebody played Sun City. Track conditions etc have the riders feeling angry. It's slippery, dusty, the asphalt is new and now the wind is blowing at a brisk rate. Sounds fun, eh?
Yamaha race boss Larry Griffis, race team coordinator Tom Halverson and crewchief Tom Houseworth have returned from their trip to Japan last week where they had a series of meetings with the Yamaha race brass there to make plans for 2000.
Print not dead? Chris Carter and company have put out seven issues of Bike Sport News in England and the newspaper will go bi-weekly next spring.
Michelin tires had a big press intro of their new DOT race tire at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this week. No word on an intro from Dunlop on their new Star DOT race tire.
The Honda fest last night at Speedway B&G was pretty large with scads of race hungry fans gobbling up beers, free stuff and chatting with the likes of Miguel DuHamel, Kurtis 'cool tattoo' Roberts, and other industry bigwigs. Several individuals wore their Print is Dead amasuperbike.com T-shirts and made some of the workin' for print mags types uncomfortable. Deal with it.
