Thursday News and Notes

Is the 2000 USGP canceled?

It sounds that way. As leaked here weeks ago, there has been a change of heart with the promoter and it sounds as if the event is now scheduled for August of 2001.

A call to Road America last night resulted in little in the way of info, with new RA president George Brugenthese saying, "We're working on a release and it will be put out next week." He offered little comment beyond that.

Expect that PACE will try very hard to get the USGP date for their series next year.

Speaking of PACE,  most of the PACE Motorsports executive committee will be at Daytona this weekend for their first event after purchasing CCS (Championship Cup Series) from Roger Edmondson. Many middle managers from the factories and several racing managers are traveling to Daytona for a roundtable discussion with PACE regarding 2000 activities. Kevin Erion, Rob Muzzy and several others are to meet with PACE this weekend.

More in a bit.
