in San Fran ...

| I'm
feeling a lot better now, though I've not really been able to move around
much so far because we're trying to let the right leg settle down and heal.
The good thing is that it's starting to feel like a right leg again and
the left knee's coming along pretty good too.
At the moment I can get around a bit on crutches and I'm hoping that by the time I go to Japan the week after Argentina, I'll be able to convince the doctors to put me back on both legs. I'm heading over there for the usual end-of-season race they have at Sugo, where Alex and Tady will be racing Superbikes against national guys. At the same time I'll be going to Honda's head office for talks. I've still not made up my mind whether I'll be riding next year but I guess by then I've got to look at things pretty closely and make a decision. After that I'll be heading back to Europe where I've got a few things to do, including attending this big awards ceremony for the top sportsmen of the century. I've been chosen along with a bunch of other guys like Muhamed Ali and Pele. They're going to be there too so that should be a fun event. I think they're holding the presentation at the opera house in Vienna - it sounds like a big deal. I've been seeing a few buddies over here and I'm planning to head south of San Francisco some time this week to see Wayne and Shae Rainey - Wayne was out karting again over the weekend. Good on Alex for winning the title. He's seemed pretty nervous at the last few races. He goes in cycles, from nervous to okay and then back again but he can relax now he's got the thing wrapped up. He was way back in practice at Rio which is pretty uncharacteristic of him, he should've just got out there and do what he normally does every weekend. But I'm glad it's finally come good for him. Alex has won more races than anyone this year and he's been the most consistent rider out there, so he deserves the championship. Since he came into 500s in '92 he's worked hard and I respect him for the effort he's put in to improve. ###
