If you called the AMA this morning and got the after hours message from Dave Despain and wondered if perhaps today was some sort of AMA holiday, it isn't.
There was a big meeting down at the AMA this morning where they brought all of the employees together to announce that they have hired a new president. The new president of the AMA is J. Scott Thornton, and his background is in running non-profit companies and in touring. He replaces Ed Youngblood who resigned last summer.
American Colin Edwards leaves this week for the Birmingham NEW bike show in England. His schedule is filled with promotional appearances for a few weeks now, and then Edwards is back in the US to marry his longtime girlfriend, Alyshia Hayes, in December. My sources say that Edwards' father, who has been ill for the better part of a year, is doing much better of late.
The NEC show is where most feel that Triumph will debut their hot little fuel injected 600, which is purported to be at least as fast as the Japanese 600s. Coolest rumor we've heard concerning this bike: Triumph will race it in 600 Supersport next year with none other than Rob Muzzy running the effort. Say, what's the common denominator between Muzzy and some dowdy guys in England, you ask? Try this on for size: Triumph America's director of marketing is Mike Vaughn, who had the same job at Kawasaki back in the early 1980s, and is close friend of the Muzz.
Former City Bike editor Jackie Jornet is now the editor of Bimmer magazine, a really cool Euro-car magazine in Northern Californa.
Nicky Hayden was named the AMA dirt track Rookie of the Year today. No comment.
Aaron Yates is officially a Yoshimura Suzuki rider as of today. Yates' Kawasaki contract ran through the end of October but he was given releases from Kawasaki USA and Muzzy to test the Yosh bike ...
Goodyear, which owns Dunlop now, pulled out of open wheel racing this morning.
Ben Bostrom and his manager will travel to Italy next week for talks with the Ducati men. It is still unknown when Bostrom will first test the bike, as Foggy is on vacation right now and the entire team is trying to unwind.
